Jesus said to the Twelve, “Fear no one. Nothing is concealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that will not be known. What I say to you in darkness, speak in the light; what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops.”
Fear is the greatest power which can conquer a human being’s heart, mind and spirit. Very often hatred is deeply embedded in fear. As a result of that fear one distances him or herself from “those people”, “those communities” or “those organizations”. All of “those other ones” all too often are made up of people who might not be people of one’s own “group”. Often “those other ones” belong to different groups of race, sexual orientation, political affiliation, religious faiths, commercial groups, labor organizations, or social leanings or one or more of “those other group” categories. Well, you and I are but one kind of a human being. We share a common nature…a human nature… a nature with only two natural and major distinct groups— MEN & WOMEN. Both are the image and likeness of our one common Creator.
Long ago God breathed life into the first members of our one common thread—our common human nature. Since then powerful forces…be they empires, armies, oppressors and even horrendous and evil human beings have truly developed far too many categories to define and divide various peoples. We are one common human race! There is no other human race! We are it!
All too often a man or woman has the audacity within the very depths of their being to actually subscribe, accept, or believe the idea that one group of people is better than, or superior to other groups. Or they might believe “their own group” is “the one true group” in total contradiction to the reality that all such group labels are man-made group labels. Please take a step back. Please!
When one accepts such generalizations or stereotypes as being truths we have a very serious problem. If you believe in this way, you have willingly or maybe unknowingly, subscribed and maybe even accepted that you are superior to another human being. Certainly people are superior in their fields of work, sports or professions. Nonetheless every single person on Earth is of our one common human nature. We all witness as each sun is setting, while darkness has begun to set in, and the darkness of night completely envelopes our entire nature. All people must submit to time…God’s time. Amid the darkness of night, as silence permeates the air, take a moment to realize just how frail, vulnerable and limited you truly are. And so too is every other man, woman or child.
Like Christ, be willing to serve others. Be willing to sacrifice. Be willing to love people you do not like. Be humble enough to recognize Christ in the eyes of the beggar at the local market. Be attentive, watch for the Christ and you will repeatedly discover Him. You have heard the Word of God. You have been drawn closer to our Lord. You have chosen to find rest and stillness in the company of our dear Lord and with many others, whose hearts, like your own, are afire with their love for Christ.
Run your lifelong race willing to serve Christ by meeting men, women and children right where they are in this life. Also, pray, trust and believe our dear Lord speaks to them through your own blessed faith, hope and love. Go out in this world and be not afraid. Our Lord is always with us. Jesus said, “Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father.” Come closer and make time to find rest, stillness and peace in the company of Christ. Do this and you will come to discover greater faith, greater hope and greater love. Lastly listen, as Jesus would say, “Do this in memory of Me.” AMEN.
