Discipleship

Jesus said, “Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father. But whoever denies me before others, I will deny before my heavenly Father.” Here our good Lord emphasizes the need on your part and my part to draw near, into His company and to go out each day keenly aware our Lord is with us and until the hour of our death. Christ invites you and me and who freely choose to draw nearer, to enter into a deep spiritual encounter and ongoing relationship with the Savior who came in part for us. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Holy is His name!

Do NOT deny your Catholicism, your reception of the various sacraments, Scripture, your willingness to attend Mass and to receive the Holy Body and Blood of Christ and your own part to reach out to and serve others. Use your own God-given gifts and talents to humbly enter into various encounters with our Lord. He enters into our lives most often through our own experiences with the many least among us…including but not limited to persons with disabilities, the poor, the homeless, those who are absolutely hard at work but still not quite making it, those struggling with addictions…drugs, alcohol, even habitual behavior. Be there for that other person. Be present to them. Pay attention and listen closely to them. Serve those among our most vulnerable populations here in our community. In the end, always choose to turn to Christ. He is the Light of the World and will continue to guide, bless, and make holy the very life you are now living out. You are by your Baptism and faith a modern disciple of Christ. Today I encourage you to go out into His community and serve the people of God, the least among us and those whose hearts and minds to which you are able to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ. Go in peace to love and serve our Lord.
