Ascension

The Ascension of Jesus Christ was that moment when human history stopped. It was when the Risen Lord said goodbye to the apostles and His disciples and sent forth the Advocate, the Paraclete, the Holy Spirit. Over 2,000 years ago hearts were attuned to Christ and they thirsted for the Divine Presence. Today in our fast-paced society, we yearn for the presence of Jesus Christ. Our faith reminds us that Jesus died and rose again, in part for us and for our loved ones.

Faith is a gift from God. Some have faith but walk away from Christ. Others have faith but are weak and filled with doubt. Others yearn for the Lord and are blessed in many ways with faith and so many other God-given gifts. As people of faith, modern disciples of Jesus Christ and people of God, may we go out into our part of God’s creation and bring the Good News of Jesus Christ into the lives of family members, friends, neighbors, strangers and even into the lives of our enemies. Faith is a pure gift from God! May we respond to God’s invitation by putting our faith into action.

The presence of the Holy Spirit in you and me and so many others brings God’s guidance, understanding, and wisdom into countless lives. Give ear to our Lord! Listen! Be still! How else can we understand the will of God if we are doing all the talking? We need to slow down, be still and quiet and in that quietude simply listen as the Paraclete, the Holy Spirit speaks to us. If we do not listen, then HOW can we hear? If we do not look, then HOW can we see. The signs of God are all around us. May we be attentive and pay attention to God’s ways. This is discipleship!

Our Lord Jesus Christ has ascended into heaven and is now seated at the right hand of the Father. Let us rejoice and be glad and give thanks to God our Father!
